Albert Lincoln Roker was born August 20, 1954 in Queens, New York. He has Jamaican and Bahamian descent. He grew up in a large family with five siblings. His parents, Isabel and Albert Roker, Sr. were Catholic and put him in Xavier High School - Jesuit university-preparatory secondary school in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Since Albert was a little child, he has always wanted to be an animator and he has worked in Cartooning & Illustration Club at the Xavier High School. After graduating from the High School, he enrolled to State University of New York at Oswego.
He began his career still being a student of SUNY Oswego and his first job was a weather anchor on WHEN-TV, located in Syracuse, New York. In 1976 he graduated from SUNY Oswego and got Bachelor degree in communications. After graduating he left WHEN-TV and moved to Washington, D.C. where he has worked as a weather anchor on WTTG for two years.
In 1978 he was noticed by NBC and he was offered a job there and had to move again, this time to Cleveland. In 1983 after successful work as a weather forecaster at WKYC-TV he returned to his hometown New York and started to work at WNBC-TV. Being already famous, he appeared on NBC News at Sunrise (substituting Joe Witte) and The Today Show. He also hosted several shows: The Al Roker Show on CNBC, Remember This? on MSNBC. Previous anchor of The Today Show Willard Scott when he was leaving the show recommended Al Roker on his place and this job drastically increased a popularity of Al Roker.
One of his most exiting weather reports was in 2005 when he broadcasted right from inside Hurricane Wilma. While he was doing the report, strong wind suddenly raised him up in the air. This video is publically available on the internet.
From 2009 to October 2015 he has been an anchor for an American morning television program Wake Up with Al along with meteorologist Stephanie Abrams on The Weather Channel. During this time he also made weather forecasts on the radio stations, namely: New York radio station WQCD and WNWV in Cleveland.
Because of his numerous projects, he is a quite rich man. His net worth is estimated to be 30 million dollars, and his salary for the work on Today is 8 million dollars.
According to Wikipedia, Al Roker has suffered from high weight (320 pounds) and decided to do an operation on his stomach in order to decrease his weight. The gastric bypass surgery was successful and his weight loss was about 100 pounds for eight months.
His first wife was Alice Bell, they have been married since 1984 to 1994. During that marriage she gave a birth to two children Courtney and Leila. In 1995 he made a proposal to American television journalist Deborah Roberts who worked on the ABC and NBC. Al Roker with Deborah are still married and have mutual son Nicholas Albert.
