Candace Parker

Candace Nicole parker was born on 19th April 1986 and she has been a professional basketball player from the USA. She is Anthony parker’s sister, the former NBA player.

Candace in basketball and achievements

Candace parker plays professional basketball and her rights are owned by UMMC Ekaterinburg of Russia and Los Angeles sparks of WNBA. She went to university of Tennessee in the year 2004 and in the year 2008, she was drafted by los angles sparks. One of the things she is known for is the fact that she was the very first woman to dunk in NCCA tournament game and she also dunked twice in a game while in college. Both milestones were actually set when she was still a redshirt freshman on the 19th of May 2006.

She is a very versatile player and she usually plays as a forward but on the Tennessee roster, she listed as a guard, a center and a forward. On Lady Vols Basketball team that won in 2007, she was the starter and also in the year 2008 during NCCA championships.

In 2009, she won favorite female athlete in the teen awards, sports category. She also guest starred on Figure It Out.

Candace parker early life

Candace was born to Larry and Natasha parker. She has two brothers who are older than her: Antony parker, the former NBA player and also Marcus parker, a doctor.

She was raised in Naperville, Illinois. Her entire family was into basketball and she was introduced to it at a very early age. In the 70’s, her father played at Iowa university. The Chicago Bulls was there favorite team. She was weary about basketball at first as she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to follow her dad’s and brother’s footsteps and so she concentrated on soccer. She was later convinced in 8th grade and her father coached her. Her father challenged here and that may be why she has made it this far.

Career in high school

She went to Naperville central high school situated in Illinois and while there, she was in the basketball team and she led it to class AA state titles in 03 and 04. Her school record stood at 2,768 points, 1,592 and started 119 out of 121 games where she participated.

In 2003 and 2004, she won USA Today High School Player of the Year and at the time; she was the only two time award winner. She won Naismith Prep Player on the ear award as well as Gatorade female basketball player of the year.

College career

She went to the university of Tennessee in the year 2004 and she red shirted the 1st season because she had a knee injury. She however participated in the 2005-2006 seasons. She was active in her freshman year, sophomore year, and junior year where she made a lot of progress.

Professional career

Her professional career started in 2008 after she was the first pick in WNBA draft by Los Angeles sparks and she has been able to play with Delisha Milton and Lisa Leslie. She joined the national team to participate in the summer Olympics.

She is married to Shelden Williams and has a baby girl called Lailaa Nicole Williams.
