Early Life and Education:
Christina Perri was born in Bensalem, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1986 to the couple Mary and Dante Perri. She attended Nazareth Academy High school and graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 2004. At the age of 16, by watching a videotape of Shannon Hoon she taught herself how to play guitar. She was active in singing and acting in musical theatre as a child.
She missed hearing music being played in the house when she moved away which inspired her to learn music and guitar. She started composing beautiful songs at the age of 15. She was from the beginning determined to make music her career.
Christina Perri got married at the age of 21, but unfortunately her marriage didn’t work out and she got divorced 18 months later. After her marriage she began to produce music videos for living. After divorce she moved into a small apartment on her own to entirely focus on her career.
By the end of 2009, she moved back to Philadelphia; it was during this time that she wrote "Jar of Hearts". She later moved back to Los Angeles, working as a waitress at the Melrose Cafe during the day and recording at night.
Perri's song "Jar of Hearts" was featured during the show So You Think You Can Dance on Fox News. "Jar of Hearts" sold 48,000 digital copies in its first week, debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 at #63 and reaching #28 on Billboard??'?s Hot Digital Songs.
Christina Perri’s intention while writing songs is simple. As she says, “My intention for my music is pretty simple: I want to make people feel less broken and alone.” After her first song she wrote and released mind-blowing songs and albums.
Christina Perri has this soft and loving heart which she shows through her songs. ‘Love’ and ‘herself’ is all she wants to express through her songs. While recording her album lovestrong she said, “Emotionally, it was the hardest 33 days of my life, but it was worth it because the result is that this album is 100 percent me. It’s heartfelt, real, bold, honest, vulnerable, hopeful, strong, poetic, bluesy, gritty, pretty, and simple.”
Christina has over 60 tattoos. She started getting tattoos when she was 15 mimicking her older brother. Almost all of her tattoos are done in black and red ink.
“They’re pretty much everywhere. I’ve got one in every direction you look — between my fingers, on my arms, on my chest, on my back, all over,” she says.
She has tattoos for three different books: Twilight, The Alchemist, and Stargirl. All of Christina’s tattoos have personal meaning and stories behind them. “I get them all the time either when I’m inspired by something, by someone, or I want to remember a part of my life, or do something crazy — there’s so many stories for each of them. It would probably take all day to explain them all,” she says.
