Rufus Sewell, a mischievous looking, gravelly voiced, having a hot lazy eye is a film actor who was born on the 29th of October in Twickenham, England. His biography tells that he was son of an Australian father Bill Sewell, who was an animator who died when Rufus was 10 years old. His mother, Jo, was Welsh artist and painter. His father, Bill Sewell, an animator, employed an impressionistic approach to Rotoscoping - the technique of tracing over film negatives - in his own film "Half in Love with Fred Astaire" and then in the famous "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" sequence in "Yellow Submarine. Rufus has one brother named Casper Sewell. He started training to become an actor. He attended London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and completed in three years and left the school in 1989 after completing three years of training.

He made a promising debut in London stage with an award winning role in “Making it Better”. He won the “Best Newcomer Award”. Sewell originated the role of Septimus Hodge in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, which earned him a nomination for the prestigious Oliver Award. He also won acclaim on the other side of the Atlantic, winning Broadway's Theatre World Award for his performance in Translations. Alongwith his stage work, Rufus has been doing several roles on large and small screen too. He made his first film debut in the movie Twenty one (1991), in which he was casted as Petsy Kensit’s junky boyfriend. His film work has been varied, acclaimed and appreciated. Other film roles which he played were, a sweet bus driver in A Man of No Importance (1994) and an impulsive artist in Carrington (1995), a greedy and dissipated son Cold Comfort Farm (1995), the lead role in Dark City (1998), the ill fated and unlucky suitor in Dangerous Beauty (1998) and an angry, hot tempered, bitter and alcoholic role in The Very Thought of You (1998). He has played lead roles, villain roles, supporting roles in theatre, films and televisions and he has been appreciated for his roles by the audiences.

He had done two marriages but divorced by both. First, he married Yasmin Abdullah on 24th March 1999, they had been married for 4 years and then they got divorced in 2000.four years later he got married to Amy Gardner in February 2004, their married lasted only two years long leading towards divorce in 2006. He has been in a relationship with the actress Alice eve in 2006 to 2008.

In 2000 Sewell graced the screen in Bless the Child, a supernatural thriller that also starred Kim Basinger and Christina Ricci. Of course few actors of his generation could essay such instantly dislikable villains as the talented Sewell, and after raising the ire of the noble Heath Ledger in the popular period adventure A Knight's Tale, he would once again make viewer's skin crawl as an aristocratic creep with more than a few skeletons in the closet in Neil Burger's romantic fantasy The Illusionist.
