Sharon Tay

Sharon Tay is an award-winning Singaporean born television news journalist. She was a former host of two programs on the MSNBC network and she is also an occasional actress, appeared in several Hollywood movies.

Sharon Tay was born in Singapore to Chinese parents on October 16th in 1966 and she immigrated to the United States when she was 7 years old. She settled with her family in Connecticut before they relocated to the Philippines. After spending time at the International School, she completed her high school education in Massachusetts. Tay attended Boston University and she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in International Relations.

She started her career in Boston Cable News where she was a reporter, writer, director, and editor. She moved to the West in 1993 to work for California CBS affiliate as a General Assignment Reporter. Sharon received her first Associated Press Award for the Best Spot News coverage of an oil tanker fire. The Tribune Broadcasting hired her a few years later and there she won two Emmys for her coverage of the Malibu fire and the Northridge earthquake. Her third Emmy she won while hosting a business affairs show on KTLA. After that, Sharon Tay became the Weekend Anchor and later Anchor for the early morning news.

Sharon Tay was the main Anchor for the KTLA morning news for seven years. Her commitment and leadership skills led her team to win two more Emmy and two more Associated Press awards for best 30 minutes format newscast. While in Los Angeles, she was a co-host for a weekly show on the National Geographic Channel called “The Human Edge”.Tay also hosted a program named “Making It: Minority Success Stories”. After the very successful career in Los Angeles, she moved to New York to host and produce two entertainment shows for MSNBC in 2005. Those shows were “MSNBC at The Movies” and “MSNBC Entertainment Hotlist”. She later joined the CBS2 & KCAL9 in 2007 as a general assignment reporter and she is still working there.

Tay appeared in several Hollywood movies, usually as a reporter or a newscaster. Some of the movies where she appeared are “Independence Day”, “Eagle Eye”, “The Pink Panther 2”, “Fast Five” and the latest was “Nightcrawler”. Sharon Tay is also known for her appearances in the TV show “True Blood”.

One of the controversies related to Sharon Tay is the alleged Rhinoplasty procedure which she underwent to in 2014, but Tay denied the surgery allegations claimed that her natural beauty and cosmetic products are made her look the way she is.

Sharon Tay is a member of Asian American Journalist Association. She currently resides in Los Angeles and loves spending time with her beloved Labrador called Mousse. She enjoys almost any outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, skiing and running. Tay loves to travel and besides English, she speaks Cantonese and Spanish. She married an eight years older Chinese American stock broker.
