Stacy Lewis is an American professional golfer. She has made it to top world ranking twice, keeping the spot of number one ranked for weeks. She has suffered from scoliosis as a teenager, but managed to overcome her illness and become on of the top world’s sportswomen.
Stacy Lewis was born on February 16, 1985, in Toledo, Ohio. She grew up in Texas, at the Woodlands, outside of Houston. Lewis graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2003.
She is an American professional golfer, known for playing on the LPGA Tour in the United States. So far, Lewis won two major championships. She first won the “Kraft Nabisco Championship”, in 2011. In 2013, Lewis won the “Women's British Open”.
Lewis was diagnosed with scoliosis, at age 11. Her illness was treated by a spinal fusion during her high school education. Because of her illness, Lewis missed her first collegiate golf season, due to recovery from the surgery.
However, despite her illness, Lewis got as far as ranked number one in the Women's World Golf Rankings in 2013. She took this spot for four weeks. She again took this position in June 2014, by winning the ShopRite LPGA Classic, for 21 consecutive weeks.
Lewis won her first official championship in 2011. 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship, a major, where she led the field for the first two rounds. In 2011, Lewis has made her Solheim Cup debut. She qualified as second for the U.S. team, following Cristie Kerr.
Lewis has made few successful business moves in branding herself and profiting from her public image. She has made an endorsement deal with Mizuno Corp, a company that produces golf clubs, as well as, Fila, for their line of Golf apparel. In 2012, Lewis has signed a sponsorship deal with KPMG.
In 2012, Lewis became the first American player who had won the award “LPGA Player of the Year” since the award was last won by Beth Daniel in 1994. Lewis earned this award for winning four tournaments in 2012.
In 2013, Lewis won three times. She won at Women's British Open in August at St Andrews. This was her second major win.
In 2014, Lewis claimed her ninth official victory on tour. She has won the North Texas LPGA Shootout, with being six strokes in advance of second-ranked Meena Lee.
Not long after, Lewis reclaimed her position in world rankings with winning the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Only 7 days after she won second at the U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst, Lewis went on to win the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
For achievements of that period, Lewis later won LPGA Player of the Year award for the second time.
This year Lewis has lost a playoff to Brittany Lincicome, at the ANA Inspiration tournament.
What will future bring to Lewis? It is beyond doubt that this ambitious player knows how to row her victories. Even though her year started with a defeat, there should be no doubt that she will find a way to pick herself up.
